Claim to fame: Low rates, great network. Page Plus Cellular has provided prepaid service on Verizon’s network for years, and they must be doing something right; they’re over 1 million strong. They had an unlimited plan before Verizon did, and their 1500-minute-and-text plan is cheaper than postpaid alternatives. Need web access? Page Plus can do that too for $1.20 per MB.

Standout features: Voice, text and multimedia messaging, web access, unlimited voice option, low per-minute rates

Pros: Verizon’s network (huge), very low per-minute rates (6¢ on “regular” prepaid), usable with any Verizon phone, unlimited voice and high-usage plans available

Cons: Expensive off-network roaming, per-message texting not the cheapest, “standard” phones are several years old (but still high-quality)

Good for: Anyone wanting cheap, prepaid cellular service who has good Verizon (or former Alltel) coverage in their area
