Overvew: AT&T Go Phone is one of the most popular brands in the prepaid wireless market today. Formerly Cingular Go Phone, their prepaid offering continues to be a market leader and fast growing part of the nation’s largest and most reliable GSM network today.

AT&T GoPhone offers two different type plans, Pick Your Plan and Pay-As-You-Go. The highly popular “rollover minutes” and mobile to mobile are included in both plans with the exception of the $29.99 monthly plan and the simple rate plan of $.25 per minute. With mobile to mobile you can call any of the 10 million AT&T customers at anytime without ever using you’re anytime minutes. (See plans below).

The AT&T text message and data plans are also available separately starting at $4.99 to $19.99 per month, as well as optional features such as ringtones and the latest mobile entertainment services. These are great value packages especially for those customers that like to text instead of talk. (See feature plans below).

AT&T always has special handset offers for the GoPhone program, especially online at their website. Some handsets even include a $15 bonus airtime credit. There is a wide selection of both new and refurbished handsets available online starting as low as $9.99 with no contract, no credit check or deposits required.

Pros: Broad selection of phones, data access (allows use of most phone features on prepaid service), expansive network with 3G in many areas, unlimited plan for less per month than postpaid

Cons: High per-minute rates, expensive pay-as-you-go messaging and international calling, 3G network overcrowding in population centers

Good for: People who want the latest phones (or their choice of phones) and have lots of friends on AT&T to make use of mobile-to-mobile minutes (not a hard thing…AT&T’s network is nearly 80 million strong)
